Scouting Through History

Eleventh World Jamboree - 1963

The Eleventh World Jamboree.

Marathon, Greece, 1963. Eleventh Jamboree. More than 12000 participants. Greek Crown Prince and Chief Scout opens the Jamboree. "Higher and Wider". Classical history comes to life: the marathon runner. The Labours de Hercules, the triathlon. Tragedy strikes: the Philippine contingent perishes in air crash. Jamboree flags are lowered. Scouts from 88 contingents march past and the Marathon torch is handed to an American Scout to be rekindled at the opening of the XII World Jamboree, somewhere in America.
