Kiwanis International
BSA Community Organization Award

Community Organizations Knot

The Kiwanis International – Boy Scouts of America Community Organization Award recognizes members of Kiwanis International and any registered adult who act as role models and render distinguished and dedicated service, leadership, or other exemplary contributions to the Boy Scouts of America. Candidates must have the recommendation of their local club and their local Scouting Council to be eligible. This honor is awarded for exceptional service that strengthens the relationships between Kiwanis and the Scouting organizations, and that exemplifies the common principles and values of Kiwanis and Scouting. Work accomplishment and dedication, rather than a specific number of years in Scouting, will be the criteria for this award.

  1. A currently-registered Kiwanian or an adult in a unit chartered by a Kiwanis club
  2. Must be currently registered with the Boy Scouts of America
  3. Must be current with Youth Protection Training in his/her Scouting position
  4. Must have strengthened the relationship between local Kiwanis clubs and Scouting
  5. Promote Scouting for all youth
  6. Exemplify the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Oath and Law as well as uphold the Objects of Kiwanis
  7. Demonstrate dedication, generous support, and distinguished service

Any Kiwanis club or individual, whether a Kiwanian or not, can nominate a Kiwanian or an adult in a unit chartered by a Kiwanis club for this award by completing an official nomination form and submitting it with a $15 check made payable to BSA to the address on the nomination form. Nomination forms must be completed by the nominating individual, signed by an officer of the Kiwanis club, and endorsed by an appropriate officer of the Scouting organization benefiting from the nominee’s service.

The National BSA office will mail a certificate and the community organization square knot to the nominator at the address designated on the nomination form. The recipient should be recognized at an appropriate venue, such as the District or Council Dinner, Blue and Gold Banquet, Court of Honor, or a Kiwanis event.

Recipients of this award receive a certificate and the BSA Community Organization Award Square knot patch shown above.
