From: f93mo@efd.lth.se (Marika Oestman) Newsgroups: rec.scouting Subject: Information on the 10th World Moot 1996 from the Moot Host Comittee Date: 14 Feb 1995 16:31:32 GMT Organization: Lund Institute of Technology, Sweden Lines: 50 ** 10th World Moot - a world event in Sweden ** The Swedish Guide and Scout Council is happy to invite all scouts, between 18 to 25 years of age, from all over the world to come to Sweden for the 10th World Moot in 1996! A World Moot where young leaders and roverscouts will meet in a truly international atmosphere in the heart of the Swedish landscape and culture. ** The Moot Site ** The Moot site will be Ransberg, situated in the county of VŠrmland, in the west of Sweden, near the river KlarŠlven and surrounded by forests and hills. It offers a campsite close to nature in an area rich in traditions and cultural heritage. The camp grounds can easily accommodate more than 3000 participants. Karlstad is the closest major town. Ransberg is an old manor from the 17th century, with many of its old buildings left intact and we are free to use them! Behind the manor lies miles of forest perfect for both shorter and longer hikes. If you do not want to go by foot, there are plenty of lakes and rivers to use for canoeing and rafting. ** "Spirit into Action" ** With the 10th World Moot we would like to make an impact to strengthen the World Scout Movement. This we can do by showing how the ideas of Lord Baden-Powell still lead the way in Scouting today. We have therefore chosen the theme "Spirit into Action". As a meeting place for young leaders and roverscouts from all over the world, the Moot will provide an excellent opportunity to reflect upon the Scouting spirit and to put it into action. ** Programme ** The aim of the programme is to let young adults and roverscouts meet and to gain experience to help them become better leaders through scouting. Scouting, that in the 10th World Moot will have Swedish influences but on international conditions. It is based very much on learning by doing, international understanding, outdoor life, democracy and the patrol. We want to give everyone as much opportunity as possible to meet people from other cultures and from the local community, as well as to enable them to participate in interesting and stimulating activities. To make this possible, patrols will be mixed (cultures and traditions permitting). Patrols will live together and cook their own food during the whole Moot. The Moot programme is divided into three main parts: - A four-day patrol expedition. Each patrol leaves the Moot site to explore the countryside under the guidance of a Swedish patrol leader. The hike includes both discussions and handicrafts. - One-day on and off-site activities. A wide variety of handicrafts, community projects, workshops, cultural sights and outdoor activities will be on offer. - The Moot Place will be the centre of activity during the Moot. It is a cafŽ open 24 hours a day, an activity centre, and a place for debates, performances and handicrafts. Campfires, community involvement projects, religious services and meditations will be co-ordinated from here. It is a meeting place where one does not only have an opportunity to participate, but also can perform and lead different activities. ** Fee ** The World Moot fee is 2,500 SEK (Swedish Krona), which is approximately US$ 337 (11 Feb. 1995). This includes the cost of the expedition and other activities, as well as food during the camp and transportation from Karlstad to the Moot site and back again. To show solidarity with the World Scout family special provision has been made for participants from countries with a GNP per capita of less than US$ 7,910. The fee for scouts and leaders from these countries has been adjusted as follows: GNP per capita US$ 2,555 - 7,910: 2,000 SEK (approximately US$ 270) GNP per capita US$ 635 - 2,555: 1,500 SEK (approximately US$ 202) GNP per capita less than US$ 635: 1,000 SEK (approximately US$ 135) ** Dates ** The 10th World Moot will be held from 15 July to 26 July 1996. ** Home Hospitality ** Home Hospitality will of course be offered before and after the Moot. This is an excellent opportunity to see more of Sweden, together with a Swedish Scout family. ** Participation and Further Information ** If you are interested in taking part in the 10th World Moot, please contact your National Headquarters or the 10th World Moot Committee.
